In-depth course on the Khaita Joyful Dances

with Adriana Dal Borgo

In this course we will discover together the different aspects that, like the facets of a diamond, characterize the Khaita Joyful Dances.

Presence and awareness will guide our steps in this discovery.

Both circle dances and dances with simple choreography will be proposed: we will deepen the movements, discovering the harmony and beauty of dancing in a group. Space will be devoted to discovering certain songs through reading the lyrics and choral singing, immersing ourselves in their melody. Highlights of Khaita's development and the work of Chögyal Namkhai Norbu will also be briefly covered.

The course is open to those who have already taken at least one course for beginners.

Dance represents a powerful and joyful instrument: it is the best way to harmonize sound and movement. By dancing we can discover our inner harmony and its resonance with the harmony of the universe. Joyful Khaita Dances were developed by Chögyal Namkhai Norbu together with his students on the basis of modern songs performed by young Tibetan artists. Some follow the models of the Tibetan tradition, while others have a more modern and original style: in the latter the movements are an expression of the sung texts. Chögyal Namkhai Norbu has collected about 400 songs by grouping them into 3 collections.

The topics covered by the chosen songs do not belong only to Tibetan culture but represent universal values such as: love and respect for the environment, for one's own language and culture, overcoming the separation between different groups and ethnic groups, spreading peace in the world.

The choreographies, based on the interaction and recognition of one's own space and that of others, promote openness to the other and collaboration. They have fun, strengthen the physical condition and educate to move in harmony in space and time.

After this weekend it is possible to continue with 3 days of In depth course on the Khaita Joyful Dances (1-3 August).
