This course is suitable for everyone: we will find out what Khaita Joyful Dances are and we will learn together the basic steps and some easy and engaging circle dances.

Khaita means "Harmony in space." Our goal is to promote harmony through dance, both in the individual and between people and their environment. Dance is a very powerful and joyful instrument: it is the best way to harmonize sound and movement and to teach an understanding of space and the way we relate to others. Through dance we can discover our inner harmony and its resonance with the harmony of the universe.

The dances that we have chosen were created by Master Chögyal Namkhai Norbu and based on modern songs performed by young Tibetan artists. Some of our dances follow the Tibetan tradition, while others have a more modern style. In the modern dances we try to express the themes of the songs through the movements in order to make them more meaningful. The topics of the songs relate not only to Tibetan culture but are at the heart of every culture. In them we can recognize values that are important for all humankind, such as the love for one’s homeland, the wish to maintain one’s language and culture, and the desire to overcome borders and separation between different ethnic groups and to keep and spread peace in the world.

These dances are enjoyable and easy to learn. They do not require special skills and are suitable for people of all ages and even those who are not familiar with music or dance. The choreography is based on interaction and on recognition of one’s own space and that of others, promoting openness towards others and collaboration between people. They are fun, strengthen one’s physical condition and teach how to move in harmony with space and time. The Khaita Joyful Dances are a great way to unwind from the stress of everyday life.
