The Cinerarium of Merigar, reserved for members of the Dzogchen Community, is located below the Temple of the Great Contemplation. It is the first building of its kind in the Dzogchen Community and can hold up to 800 urns.

Octagonal in shape, it has four entrance doors pointing to the four cardinal directions. The upper part of the exterior is decorated with syllables of the mantra of Simhamukha, the lion-faced dakini, in Ranjana script characters in red vermilion color. These mantra syllables create a protective ring around the building. Below the mantra are floral decorations and faces of benevolent mythological animals (called Kirtimukha) bearing jewels.

The interior ceiling has twelve panels painted with mandalas (called tagdrols) whose mantras, colors, and images have been carefully researched in the original texts. On the other panels Samantabhadra’s mantra syllables are painted in different scripts. These mantras and mandalas can be a cause of liberation for beings through different types of sensory contact, including eyesight. The colors used to paint the panels were prepared according to the tradition of Tibetan art, using natural pigments mixed with ground semi-precious stones including turquoise, pearls, corals, lapis lazuli, amber, and malachite. The mantras are painted in pure gold mixed with silver, copper, iron, and bronze.
